The Almada Festival 2025 will be marked by the return of several of the foreign creators who have had the most success with Portuguese audiences in recent years: this is the case of Thomas Ostermeier and his Schaubühne Berlin, which brings us Édouard Louis' History of Violence. And also Joël Pommerat, who presents Marius, from the play by Marcel Pagnol that is a ‘modern classic’ of French dramaturgy.
The full programme of the 42nd edition of the Almada Festival already has two more shows scheduled, La tempesta, by the Italian puppet company Carlo Colla and Figli, which was chosen by the public last year to return in 2025 as the Show of Honour. As far as premieres are concerned, the Almada Theatre Company will present A more-than-perfect goodbye, an adaptation of Peter Handke's novella directed by Teresa Gafeira.
In addition to the 46 theatre and dance sessions, between 4 and 18 July there will be open-air concerts every evening, meetings with artists in the late afternoon and visual arts exhibitions. This year the Festival takes place in Almada (Teatro Municipal Joaquim Benite, Escola D. António da Costa, Fórum Municipal Romeu Correia, Academia Almadense) and Lisbon (Centro Cultural de Belém and Culturgest).
