World Tourism Day is celebrated annually on 27 September, with the aim of highlighting the importance of tourism in its role in economic development, but also as a driver of social, educational and labour progress and as a generator of policies that create new opportunities for all.
Since 1980, World Tourism Day has been celebrated annually on 27 September, as this was the day on which the directives considered most significant for global tourism came into force.
In 2025, the proposed theme is ‘Tourism and sustainable transformation’ to raise awareness of its development with sustainable and socially equitable approaches.
