Finally making its national debut, American composer Samuel Barber's masterpiece, Vanessa (1957).
Vanessa has spent the last twenty years waiting for a former lover whom she blindly believes will return. She holds her family hostage to this vain hope, until her former lover supposedly returns. Is he real or an impostor? Will Vanessa want to continue living in the web she has created for herself, or will she finally face reality?
The composer of the famous adagio offers us an opera with the most inspired and vibrant music, in a libretto by Gian-Carlo Menotti, about illusion and shattered dreams, the passage of time and the refusal to face the harsh reality of life and human relationships.
Performed by soprano Catarina Molder, it is directed by German Daniela Kerck and musically directed by Diogo Costa.
