João Machado (1942) is responsible for having created numerous projects in editorial design, corporate identity, and philately.

However, the poster assumes autonomy in the consolidation of his authorial work and holds recognised significance within the historiography of this genre in Portugal.

His body of work highlights the importance of drawing and its application to editorial illustration, which — alongside composition and use of colour — is equally distinctive and crucial to the effectiveness of his visual language.

The methodical way João Machado archived records, graphic materials, preliminary versions, mock-ups and final artworks — both in physical and digital formats, in which he was a pioneer — reveals his awareness of the unique value of each element in the construction of his working vocabulary and the evolutionary continuity of models and compositions.

Worthy of mention are his long-standing and fruitful collaborations with CTT — Correios de Portugal and the Cinanima International Animated Film Festival.
