Queer Lisboa is the sole Portuguese Film Festival dedicated exclusively to screen LGBT themed films, and movies dealing with subjects or aesthetics related to issues such as gender, identities or bodies, a genre known as Queer Cinema.
Queer Lisboa – International Queer Film Festival is the oldest film festival in the city. In 2025, it returns to Cinema São Jorge and Cinemateca Portuguesa, from 19 to 27 September, with over 100 films and a varied set of parallel activities, from parties and talks to exhibitions.
If you like cinema and want to learn more about queer aesthetics and films, for its 29th edition, the festival offers an unprecedented and eclectic programme, always complemented by the presence of many guests.
Among the many names represented in the programme, writer Camila Sosa Villada, singer Ney Matogrosso, actor Russell Tovey, activist Sally Gearhart and photographer Peter Hujar will be on screen, in a programme that offers a queer perspective on the major political, social and cultural issues of today, without forgetting the ever-important view of the history of queer culture and communities.
