This Interpretative Centre is an interactive experience of the history and content of Almada Negreiros' murals at the Alcântara and Rocha do Conde de Óbidos Maritime Stations, as well as learning about the artist's life and Almada's artistic footprint in Lisbon.
The Interpretive Centre “Murais de Almada nas Gares Marítimas” (Murals of Almada in the Maritime Stations), is located at the Alcântara and Conde d'Óbidos stations in Lisbon.
On a tour of nine rooms, the Centre tells us the story about the mural paintings and the context in which they were created; the artist and the artist’s work throughout the city of Lisbon, and of those who passed through these stations during the second half of the 20th century.
A visit to this new space in Lisbon allows us to find out about the life and work of Almada Negreiros, a renowned Portuguese multidisciplinary artist and his artistic footprint, which is still visible in various areas of the city today,
The route between the two stations is covered by a vehicle based on an original design brought to life by the studio of Architect Pardal Monteiro in the 1940s to transport passengers' luggage.
This transport is exclusively for visitors of the Interpretive Centre and operates every day between 10am and 6pm.
