Details

Curated by António Pedro Mendes and Sofia Castro, it aims to punctuate moments in Eurico Lino do Vale's photographic production that show a constant theatricality and scenographic aspect in his modus operandi.

The images that the photographer creates and records, and which make his gaze particular, echo the practices of photographic studios, thus highlighting the photographer's guidelines, the effective use of light, the use of backgrounds, props and other elements, which construct environments and narratives characterised by those portrayed.

Eurico Lino do Vale is a photographer who thinks like a stage director and is responsible for all aspects related to the scene he wants or is interested in photographing. Actively involved in the construction of the image, he acts like a stage manager, creating the scenography by preparing the space, using props and costumes, arranging the actors and using a lexicon that transforms the photographic studio into a stage.

The show includes large-scale analogue proofs, current proofs and two projections based on photographic series made specifically for the exhibition, which spans three rooms of the Lisbon Municipal Archive - Photographic and where you can find typologies such as self-portraits, family portraits and other ‘staged’ images from series never presented to the public.
